Guidelines
The Tributary is looking for submissions in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.
You do not have to be a creative writing, English, or fine arts major to submit! We especially encourage and welcome submissions from diverse voices and under-represented populations, including, but not limited to, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities, and nontraditional students. We welcome all genres, including literary fiction, speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy), romance, etc.
Submissions will be accepted December 9th through February 15th, closing at midnight EST.
Submission Format:
Please follow traditional formatting guidelines for prose submissions, found here.
For poetry, please follow these guidelines.
Only one submission per writer per category. Writers are welcome to submit to multiple categories.
For prose submissions, please submit pieces up to 10,000 words.
For poetry submissions, please submit up to five poems.
In the subject of the email, please follow this format:
Fiction Submission: Your Title
Poetry Submission: Your Title(s)
CNF Submission: Your Title
Art Submission: Your Title (s)
Please email submissions in a Word document to thetributary[@]lycoming.edu. Please attach a Word document (.doc or .docx) containing the manuscript (please include all poems in one document).
In the body of the email, please include a cover letter containing the follow:
- Any important information or three of your previous publications
- A brief (one paragraph) bio or description of yourself, written in third person
Art Submissions
Please submit your work in an email as attachments or with a file-sharing service such as Google Drive or Dropbox, shared to thetributary@lycoming.edu. Please include a cover letter with the requirements listed above.
Note: Non-printable submissions will be displayed on our website and will be mentioned in the printed journal.
Any submissions that do not follow the guidelines will be rejected.
