Submissions for our 4th National Edition are open from January 23rd to February 20th!

Guidelines

The Tributary is looking for submissions in poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction.

The Tributary is a paying publication:

Prose submission (fiction, creative nonfiction, screenplay): 1,000-5,000 words. $0.08 per word

Poetry: 1-5 poems (no minimum or maximum line requirement), $100.00 per poem (unless per word rates exceed $100, then $0.08 per word will be applied).

Art: 1-5 art pieces (2D artwork (painting, drawing, etc.), digital art, photography, and high quality images of 3D artwork), $100 per work, $150 if selected as cover art.

We do accept reprints at $0.01 per word.

Notes: A contract outlining publication rights and payment will be sent upon acceptance. Payment is made via check. Accepted writers must provide a mailing address in order to receive payment.

You do not have to be a creative writing, English, or fine arts major to submit! We are open to all U. S. candidates, and we especially encourage and welcome submissions from diverse voices and under-represented populations, including, but not limited to, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, those with disabilities, and nontraditional students. We welcome all genres, including literary fiction, speculative fiction (science fiction and fantasy), romance, etc.

Submissions will be accepted January 23rd through February 20th, closing at midnight EST.

For poetry, please follow these guidelines.

Only one submission per writer per category. Writers are welcome to submit to multiple categories.

In the subject of the email, please follow this format:

Fiction Submission: Your Title

Poetry Submission: Your Title(s)

CNF Submission: Your Title

Cover Art Submission: Your Title

Please email submissions in a Word document to thetributary@lycoming.edu. Please attach a Word document (.doc or .docx) containing the manuscript (please include all poems in one document).

In the body of the email, please include a cover letter containing the follow:

1. The name of your institution

2. Any important information or three of your previous publications

3. A brief (one paragraph) bio or description of yourself, written in third person

Any submissions that do not follow the guidelines will be rejected.
